Artist Spotlight: Hannah Shae
At West Side Tattoo, we’re proud to have a team of artists who bring their own unique touch and vision to every piece — and Hannah Shae is no exception. A second-generation tattoo artist, Hannah has been with our crew for over five years, continually impressing clients with her eye for detail and her refined illustrative style. When she’s not in the studio, you’ll often find her outdoors, enjoying camping and other adventures that keep her connected to the natural world — an influence that often shows up in her work.
Her Tattoo Style
Hannah’s approach to tattooing blends precision with creativity, resulting in pieces that feel both delicate and dynamic.
Linework: Hannah uses crisp, clean outlines with thoughtful variations in line weight. The shift between thin and medium strokes gives her designs a sense of depth and movement while keeping every detail sharp.
Dotwork / Stippling: Instead of heavy shading, Hannah employs dotwork to build soft gradients and texture. From the otter’s fur to the petals of the flowers, stippling brings a gentle dimension to her work.
Illustrative Realism: Her pieces strike a balance between lifelike proportions and a slightly stylized, illustrative feel, making the tattoos playful yet sophisticated.
Black & Grey Palette: By working exclusively in black ink, Hannah achieves elegance and longevity in her tattoos. The variations in stippling create natural light and shadow without overpowering the fine line detail.
The result is a tattoo that feels whimsical yet refined — a blend of nature-inspired subject matter and modern fine line aesthetics.
